This wikiHow teaches you how to set your iPhone to automatically forward all incoming calls to voicemail. The quickest way to accomplish this is to use airplane mode or Do Not Disturb mode, both of which can be found in the Control Center of your iPhone. Alternatively, you can direct all unknown callers to voicemail while continuing to receive calls from your contacts, or you can direct all incoming calls to a phone number designated solely for voicemail.
Steps
Open the Control Center. Do Not Disturb mode, which you can quickly toggle on and off from the Control Center, is one of the quickest and most customizable ways to route all calls to voicemail.
- Swipe down from the top-right edge of the Home screen if your iPhone has Face ID but no Home button.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen to open Control Center if your iPhone has a bottom-center Home button.
Tap the crescent moon icon. When you tap the icon, it turns white, and the moon turns blue. This means that Do Not Disturb is turned on, and anyone attempting to call you will be directed to your voicemail. You will be unaware that the call is being placed.
- While in Do Not Disturb mode, a moon icon will appear near the clock at the top of your iPhone's screen.
- Any notifications, including texts, that you would normally receive will be delayed until you disable Do Not Disturb mode.
- Continue using this method to learn how to change the behavior of Do Not Disturb.
To customize Do Not Disturb, tap and hold the moon icon. A menu will expand.
Tap Schedule. It can be found at the bottom of the menu. This will bring up your Do Not Disturb settings.
Select your Do Not Disturb settings.
- To turn on Do Not Disturb at a specific time, toggle the "Scheduled" switch to the On position and enter the desired days and/or hours.
- Allow Calls From and select the Favorites group if you want people on your Favorites list to be able to reach you while others are routed to voicemail.
- You can also choose to allow calls through if the caller calls you repeatedly; to enable this feature, toggle the "Repeated Calls" switch to On.
- Tap Activate under "Do Not Disturb While Driving" and select an option to send all calls to voicemail while driving.
- Tap Auto-Reply to and set your preferences to send an automatic response to people who try to contact you while you are in Do Not Disturb mode.
To disable Do Not Disturb mode, tap the moon icon in the Control Center. If you were in Do Not Disturb mode and someone left you a voicemail, you'll be notified of new messages and missed alerts in a few moments.
Open the Control Center. Enabling airplane mode is the quickest way to send all of your calls to voicemail. While in airplane mode, your iPhone will not communicate with your cellular network, so any incoming phone calls will be routed to voicemail. To open the Control Center:
- Swipe down from the top-right edge of the Home screen if your iPhone has Face ID but no Home button.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen to open Control Center if your iPhone has a bottom-center Home button.
Toggle airplane mode on or off by tapping the airplane icon. When you enable airplane mode, the airplane icon turns orange and white. It will be gray when it is turned off.
- Turning on airplane mode usually does not disable Wi-Fi unless you manually disable it. This means that you'll continue to receive notifications and iMessages as long as you're connected to Wi-Fi in airplane mode, unless you turn off Wi-Fi.
Open your iPhone's Settings app. You can use this method to send unknown callers to voicemail while still receiving inbound calls from everyone else. Begin by opening your Settings by tapping the gear icon on your Home screen.
- Inbound calls from people in your contacts list, numbers you've recently called (even if you haven't saved them as contacts), and Siri suggestions will continue to arrive.
Scroll down and tap Phone. The green phone receiver icon can be found in the middle of your Settings menu.
Tap Silence Unknown Callers. It's near the bottom of the list.
Turn on the "Silence Unknown Callers" switch. . All inbound calls from unknown numbers will be routed to your voicemail as long as this switch is turned on. These calls will appear on the Recent Calls list, but you will not hear them ring.
- To disable this feature, toggle this switch off at any time.
Find your voicemail number. You may be able to direct calls to a special voicemail number if you want to immediately forward all inbound calls to your voicemail without using the standard methods. This number varies by provider, so you'll need to contact them to find out what it is.
- This will not be your personal phone number, but rather a separate voicemail number.
Open your iPhone's Settings app. It will appear on your Home screen or in your app list.
Scroll down and tap Phone. The green phone receiver icon can be found in the middle of your Settings menu.
Select Call Forwarding from the Phone menu. This will take you to a new page where you can configure your forwarding.
Set the "Call Forwarding" switch to "On." . When you enable this option, all incoming calls are routed to a number of your choosing.
