Android devices allow users to record and send calls to voicemail. This can be helpful for people who do not want to answer calls or for people who are busy and do not have time to answer calls.
To send a call to voicemail on an Android device:
1. Open the phone's voicemail app.
2. Tap the voicemail icon.
3. Tap the call you want to send to voicemail.
4. Tap the voicemail button.
5. Tap the record button.
6. Tap the send button.
7. The call will be sent to voicemail.
We've all been there: you give your phone number to someone who doesn't know when to stop calling you. It could be someone attempting to sell you a new car, smartphone, or even home improvements. Perhaps it's a resentful ex who refuses to let go.
Whoever it is, there is a way to reclaim the silence you once had in their absence.
For users on Android 2.x:
Step 1: Open the contact information for the person you want to send to voice mail.
Step 2: Select Options by pressing the Menu button.
Step 3: Check the box next to Incoming calls (Send calls directly to voicemail) on the screen that appears.
For users on Android 4.0+ (Ice Cream Sandwich):
Step 1: Open the contact information for the person you want to send to voice mail.
Step 2: To open the contact's Settings menu, tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner.
Step 3: Select the checkbox next to All voicemail calls.
Now, whenever that annoying person calls you, they will only hear your voice mail. This will not stop them from flooding your voice-mail box with nonsense messages, but it may give them the impression that they are either blocked or your phone is turned off.
And one other tip: After you have sent someone's phone calls to voice mail, be wary of unknown phone numbers. It may sound paranoid, but there are people who will start calling you from different phone numbers to see if they can still reach you.
If you've ever wanted an easy way to route contacts directly to voicemail, the latest release of the Google stock Contacts app has made that a reality.
Android developers are constantly striving to make users' lives easier and more convenient. Furthermore, they try to keep us from having to deal with phone calls from people we don't necessarily want to hear from. Although that may sound cold, you may find yourself working in the field and having certain clients blow up your phone, making it difficult to concentrate or complete the job. When that happens, wouldn't it be nice to have a simple way to route those calls directly to voicemail?

Fortunately, the Android developers considered this. And in Android 8.0 (Oreo), they've made it ridiculously simple. Sure, in previous versions, calls could be routed to voicemail, but it's now a no-brainer. In fact, it's now very simple to route and un-route a contact directly to voicemail, allowing you to streamline your administrative day.
Let me demonstrate how this is done. I'll be demonstrating on an Essential PH-1 running a very stock version of Android 8.1, but it should work on any device running Android 8 and the most recent Google Contacts app release. If your device has a different contacts app, I strongly advise you to download the stock app from the Google Play Store (as this method will not work with any other contacts app).
NOTE: This setup does not require Android Oreo. The Google Contacts app's most recent version (version 2).7.2.195464261) is.
How to route contacts
You'll be surprised at how simple this is. Open the Contacts app and find the contact you want to route to voicemail automatically. Tap the menu button in the upper right corner to open that contact. Tap the entry for Route to voicemail (Figure A) in the resulting menu.
Figure A
That’s it. When that specific contact attempts to call you, the call is automatically routed to voicemail.
Unrouting the contact
To remove a contact from voicemail, open the contact, tap the menu button, and then select Unroute to voicemail. That’s it.
Easy call control
With this method, you can easily control when a contact can directly call you or leave a voicemail, making your day a little less interrupted. Just remember to unroute those contacts after a long day in the IT trenches, or you might miss some important calls.
